Letter of Reference - SRY Raillink
To Whom It May Concern:
Over the 5 years that I worked with Cory at SRY Raillink, he continuously displayed a great work ethic and positive attitude. The nature of the job produced variable cognitive and physical demands, depending on the specific task required. There were certainly days when I needed a labourer to put his head down for 17 hours and work efficiently and safely in stressful conditions and difficult environments. Cory showed a dedication to his work that I became confident in and relied on often. He also displayed skill and foresight during tasks that required greater amounts of planning under restricted timelines, providing a fresh perspective on recurring problems. When a job required a trackman to work independent of the crew, I never had to worry about Cory getting the job done without supervision.
The most obvious impact that Cory had at SRY was his effort in making our track gang a team. Cory never hesitated to explain something or answer a question when training courses would pose challenges for his co-workers. On more than one occasion, I would see Cory explaining a math problem or another source of confusion to a co-worker during his break or during training courses. He also had an ability to find the balance between encouragement and lightening a moment, which allowed him to tell a co-worker what they needed to know without making them feel inadequate or pandered to.
I also served with Cory as a shop steward for our department at SRY. We started with the goal of developing and improving the relationship between the two respective territories within our department. When we started this daunting task, the relationship between the two territories was non-existent and, at times, predatory in nature. However, over they years Cory displayed a diplomacy and approachable demeanor that contributed to the erosion of tensions. By the time he left to return to university, the unity and camaraderie between us had drastically improved.
His work ethic, teamwork, positive attitude and genuine care for his fellow workers make Cory an excellent employee and have set a demanding standard for successors here at SRY.
